This Ramesh Dontha case study is about one of my own students, and it's a great example of a bestseller doing double duty: it won a national book award, and he used it to launch an entirely new platform.

Ramesh is an entrepreneur and professor, and the author of The 60 Minute Startup, the first book in his Agile Entrepreneur Series. It became an Amazon #1 bestseller, won a Gold Medal at the Readers' Favorite International Book Awards, and became the launchpad for a podcast that hit the Top 500 business podcasts on iTunes.

I had him share his story for my Author Success Stories series. The full video is right here, and below it I've pulled out what I think any nonfiction author can copy.

One note before we start: this testimonial comes from Dream Clients & Autopilot, an earlier version of my course. Golden Bestseller Empire is its next chapter. The methods are exactly the same, and they're timeless: finding your brand, publishing a bestseller the right way, and using that book to launch a bigger platform. What's new is that you now have AI-assisted tools and 31+ one-click generators that make every one of those steps even easier.

Who is Ramesh Dontha, and why is his story worth studying?

Ramesh Dontha is an entrepreneur and professor, and the author of the Agile Entrepreneur Series: The 60 Minute Startup, The 60 Minute Podcast Startup, and The 60 Minute Tech Startup. His first book, The 60 Minute Startup, became a Smash Hit #1 Bestseller on Amazon and won the Gold Medal at the 2020 Readers' Favorite International Book Awards, in the Non-Fiction - Marketing category.

From there, he launched a podcast, The Agile Entrepreneur, which became one of the Top 500 Business Podcasts on iTunes.

You can see his full catalog on his Amazon author page and learn more about him at rameshdontha.com.

Here's the part I love most: the book came first, and everything else, the award, the podcast, the platform, grew out of it.

How did Ramesh learn to do all this?

He learned it from me. In his own words, Ramesh had actually started writing his book earlier, on his own, before he found my course. He told me:

"Once I connected with Gundi's training, a whole new world opened up for me. I'm so glad I got into her program. Now I have confidence to write more books, make them bestsellers as well and then use those books to launch my platform. Since I launched the book, it continues to be a bestseller, even months later."

He described the course as covering three distinct parts. First, it helped him identify his own personal brand and long-term goals, and how an Amazon #1 bestseller could help him reach them. Second, it laid out the actual steps, the same ones I'd personally taken and helped other authors take, to publish a book and make it an Amazon #1 bestseller. Third, it covered how to take a finished bestseller and use it to launch a bigger platform, whether that's a podcast, a course, or something else entirely.

Ramesh also specifically pointed to the private, invite-only Facebook group as one of the most valuable parts of the experience, a place where I'm personally active, giving feedback on book covers, titles, keywords, and the day-to-day steps of the process.

As he put it in his testimonial video: it's the very first video testimonial he's ever given for any course or program he's taken.

Why did the book keep selling well past launch?

Ramesh told me that The 60 Minute Startup was still a bestseller in its third month, not just during the initial launch window. That kind of staying power is exactly what separates authors who treat a launch as a one-time event from authors who build a real strategy around their book.

Winning the Readers' Favorite Gold Medal added an extra layer of credibility on top of the Amazon bestseller status itself, the kind of third-party recognition that keeps paying off in launch materials, author bios and media pitches long after the award ceremony is over.

How did one book turn into a podcast and a platform?

This is the part of Ramesh's story I think every nonfiction author should pay attention to. He didn't stop at publishing a bestseller. He used it as the foundation to launch The Agile Entrepreneur podcast, which grew into one of the Top 500 Business Podcasts on iTunes.

That's the third part of the process he described from the course: the book isn't the finish line, it's the credibility and platform you then use to launch whatever comes next, a podcast, a course, speaking, consulting. The book makes people trust you enough to follow you somewhere else.

What can you learn from Ramesh Dontha's case study?

If you take only a few things from Ramesh, take these:

  1. A clear personal brand comes before the book strategy. Knowing his long-term goals shaped how he approached publishing in the first place.
  2. Follow a proven, step-by-step process rather than guessing. He credited the clearly laid out steps for making his book a genuine Amazon #1 bestseller.
  3. A bestseller can win real third-party recognition. The Gold Medal from Readers' Favorite added credibility beyond the Amazon ranking itself.
  4. Use your book as a launchpad, not an endpoint. His podcast, built on the back of the book's credibility, reached the Top 500 on iTunes.
  5. An active author community is worth as much as the course content. Ramesh pointed to daily, hands-on feedback in the Facebook group as one of the most valuable parts of the process.

Ramesh's results are his own, and results vary from author to author. See my Earnings Disclaimer.

How does this fit Amazon's new book algorithm?

Ramesh's book worked because it was built around a clear promise to a clear audience, entrepreneurs who want to start a business without quitting their day job first, described in plain, specific language. That matters even more now, because Amazon is moving toward relationship-based discovery, where a book is understood by who it's for and what it solves, not only by keywords. I've explained how that works in How to Get Your Book Page Ready for AI Shopping.

This is exactly why I built Golden Bestseller Empire the way I did. Your Book Planner blueprint is turned into an algorithm-ready outline and a knowledge graph. That same blueprint then feeds your book description, A+ content, backend keywords, translations and Amazon ads keywords. I don't know of another app that does that.

And your book stays yours. The Writing Studio works like a word processor where you write or dictate, with an AI Writing Coach and an AI Editor on your side.
