KDP's 2-Titles-Per-Week Limit: What Counts as Creating vs. Submitting
KDP now limits you to 2 new titles per format per week, with a separate 2-title limit on submitting. Here's what counts, what doesn't, and when it resets.

Create Limit
2 new titles per format, per week
Submit Limit
2 new titles per format, per week (counted at first submission, drafts included)
Weekly Reset
Every Sunday at 12:00 AM UTC (Saturday evening in the U.S.)

Alrighty, let's talk about the KDP title limit, the rule that quietly changed how many books you can start in a week.
Most of the roundups you'll see describe only half of it. KDP actually has two limits, and they're separate: one for creating new titles, and one for submitting them for publication. If you only knew about the first one, the second could surprise you on launch week.
I'm keeping this to what Amazon's own Help page says about the KDP title limit, so you can plan your next release without guessing.
What changed in the KDP title limit (the official version)
Amazon's Create a Book Help page now says the KDP title limit works like this. You can:
- Create up to 2 new titles per book format each week.
- Submit up to 2 new titles per book format each week. A title counts toward this limit the first time you submit it for publication.
Format means ebook, paperback, and hardcover. Each one gets its own pair of limits, so you could create 2 ebooks, 2 paperbacks, and 2 hardcovers in the same week. That's not "2 books total."
Both limits reset every Sunday at 12:00 AM UTC. In the U.S. that's Saturday evening: 8 p.m. Eastern while daylight time is in effect, 7 p.m. Central.
What counts toward the KDP title limit, and what doesn't
It counts:
- Creating a brand-new title on your Bookshelf (the creation limit).
- Submitting a new title for publication for the first time (the submission limit). This includes titles you previously saved as drafts.
It doesn't count:
- Updates to a title you've already submitted. Amazon's page says these don't count against the weekly submission limit.
The part worth underlining: a title you saved as a draft last month still uses up a submission slot the first time you submit it. If you've been quietly stockpiling drafts for a big launch week, the submission limit is the one to watch.

Why the KDP title limit matters (and who can ignore it)
This is meaningful for you if:
- You publish a series and like to launch several books close together
- You release your book in multiple formats at once and also create other titles that week
- You run a small publishing business with many titles in the pipeline
You can mostly ignore it if:
- You publish a book or two a quarter
- Your work in progress is a single manuscript
Press coverage connects the change to the flood of low-quality, mass-produced and AI-generated books. If you use AI in your process, read Can You Publish AI Books on Amazon KDP? before you submit. For authors who publish thoughtfully, a KDP title limit of 2 per format per week is usually room to spare. It's the mass-production model that it squeezes.
Your simple planning checklist for the KDP title limit
- Count your formats. Each format has its own pair of limits.
- Look at your drafts. Remember that under the KDP title limit, each one uses a submission slot the first time you submit it.
- Spread your launches out. If you have a large series, stagger the submissions across weeks instead of stacking them on one Sunday.
- Mind the Sunday reset. If your week's slots are used up, plan the next submission for after 12:00 AM UTC on Sunday.
- Keep your edits flowing. Updates to titles you've already submitted don't use slots.
Still unknown about the KDP title limit (and worth watching)
- Amazon's Help page doesn't spell out what happens to a draft you create but never submit.
- PublishFlow reports that the old line inviting high-volume publishers to request an exception disappeared from the Help page when the new limits went in. Amazon hasn't announced an alternative path, so treat the KDP title limit of 2 per format as firm.

A quick note from someone who's been doing this a while
After more than a decade of publishing, here's what I'd do with this rule: treat your submission slots like a calendar, not a rush. Finish a book properly, submit it, and let the next one wait for its week. Quality is what keeps a catalog healthy anyway, and it's what the limit is nudging everyone toward. With my new AI Beginner Guides "Blissful Kittens" series, I'm planning my newest submissions around these limits myself.
If you only do one thing after reading this: write down the number of formats you publish in, and block out which weeks each book will be submitted.
