The Front End tab in the Writing Studio.

Why is it called Impressum?

The page most people think of as the copyright page is labeled Impressum in this tool. It is the same page with the same content (copyright notice, rights statement, trademarks, ISBN and disclaimer), just the more precise and international publishing term for it.

What is on the Impressum page?

The Impressum holds your copyright notice, a rights statement, your trademarks, your ISBN and your disclaimer.

Some of the wording is built into the page itself, such as "Copyright ©", "by [author]", the full rights-reserved legal paragraph, "Cover Design:" and the ISBN labels. These are not separate fields you edit.

How do I find and open it?

  1. Click the Front End tab at the top of the Writing Studio.
  2. On the right, you will see four page thumbnails: Title Page, Impressum, Table of Contents and Dedication.
  3. Click the Impressum thumbnail.

It opens a live, editable preview of that exact page, a pixel-accurate preview of the real exported PDF.

How do I change what it says?

Use the Front End tab's form. It holds your copyright holder, publisher, edition, series, ISBN, trademarks, cover design credit and disclaimer, plus Additional Fields for your own custom entries. There is also a checkbox for the "Cataloging-In-Publication Data... Library of Congress" line.

You can also click a text block on the Impressum page itself, then drag it to move it or drag a corner handle to resize the text. See How do I edit the blocks on my front pages?

I imported my book. Did I lose my copyright page?

No. This is intentional, not a bug. Import does not turn the copyright and legal-notice content into a chapter. Instead, import automatically reads that content and prefills as much of the Front End tab as it can find: subtitle, copyright holder, publisher, edition, ISBN, trademarks, cover design credit and dedication. Anything real it finds that does not fit one of those fields lands in Additional Fields. Open the Front End tab first to check what is already filled in before you type anything by hand. Anything the automatic read missed, or got wrong, you can type or fix directly. See What happens to my copyright page and images when I import?

What if my book is in another language?

When you translate your front matter, the built-in wording on the page translates too. See How do I translate my front matter?
