Translator's Notes and the Change This Button

Translator's Notes show how your book was localized. Use the Change this button to adjust one choice, and only the affected spots are updated.

Translator's Notes show how your book was localized. If you speak the language and disagree with a choice, click Change this next to it, explain what you want in your own words, and click Apply Correction.

The My Books tab in the Writing Studio.

What are Translator's Notes?

When the Global Book Translator finishes, the review screen shows the Translator's Notes. The translated manuscript is available when you push it to Writing Studio. The notes explain the register, the protected terms and the localization choices in English, and the localized examples stay in the target language. They show exactly how the book was localized:

How do I fix a choice I disagree with?

Every decision shown in the Translator's Notes has a small Change this button next to it. That covers the register choice, each "kept in English" term, and each vocabulary or glossary entry. It is for you if you speak the target language and disagree with a specific choice. For example, "this should be the formal form, not informal", or "this phrase should have been translated, not left in English".

  1. Click Change this next to the choice.
  2. A small box opens. Type the correction in plain language. It can be in any language, and it does not need to be typed in the target language.
  3. Click Apply Correction.

Apply Correction updates that one decision, and it automatically finds and fixes every place in the already-translated book that was actually affected by it.

Does Change this translate my whole book again?

No. It does not re-translate the whole book from scratch. Only the specific spots the correction touches are changed. Everything else stays exactly as it was. This is intentional. It keeps it fast and does not waste the AI generation on content that was already correct.

What if nothing seems to change?

If nothing in the book was affected by a given correction, it is normal for nothing to visibly change there. For example, correcting a register choice on a section that never used direct address at all. That is the system correctly recognizing nothing needed fixing in that spot. It is not a sign that the button did not work.

When can I make corrections?

Corrections can be made any time before you push to Writing Studio. The corrected Translator's Notes carry through into the pushed book.

Then click Push Translation to Writing Studio to review the formatted translated book. See How do I translate my whole book with the Global Book Translator?.

Is the translation ready to publish after the notes?

A qualified bilingual editor is the final publication review. Before publication, check whole-book consistency, omissions, punctuation, headings and export layout. Review flagged author decisions, the final export and any specialist or idiomatic wording. Use Change this for specific corrections.
