The Authority Audit and Your Bibliography Explained

The Authority Audit reviews a chapter or your whole book for claims, statistics and research, and suggests citations for you to check and add.

The Authority Audit reviews your chapter or whole book for claims, statistics and research, and suggests citations. It does not independently verify a claim. You review each source and verify its link before publishing.

The Writing Studio buttons: Visual Editor, Page Preview, Proofread, Section Editor, Writing Coach and Authority Audit.

What does the Authority Audit do?

It reviews the chapter you select, or your whole book, for claims, statistics and research, and suggests citations. Selected citations can be added to your bibliography and linked to matching text in your manuscript.

On the Step 4 · WRITE roadmap page, the Writing Team list includes "Research claims and build your sources," and the Authority Audit appears among the Writing Studio features as "suggest sources to verify."

Where do I find it?

The Authority Audit button is in the Visual Editor only. It is one of the four action buttons shown right next to the Visual Editor and Page Preview tabs, with Proofread, Section Editor and Writing Coach. It is not in Page Preview.

It opens its own panel, which shows the full bibliography once sources are found. There is no count badge on the button itself.

How do I run an audit?

  1. In the Visual Editor, click Authority Audit.
  2. Choose a chapter or the whole book.
  3. Click Run Audit.
  4. Review the suggestions.
  5. Verify their links.
  6. Add the citations you select to your manuscript and bibliography.

Why must I verify every source?

The Authority Audit does not independently verify a claim. You review each source and verify its link before publishing. The final choice is always yours as the author.

Where does my bibliography appear?

The Bibliography, built from the Authority Audit's citations, lives inside Back Matter. Back Matter is the last entry inside the scrollable chapter list on the left, and it is styled to match the other Back Matter items. Click it to expand or collapse it, just like a chapter.

Can I add a link without the Authority Audit?

Yes. You can add any link yourself with the Link button. See How do I add a link?.

How do links look in the printed book?

In the printed book, a link's text prints as plain text, with no underline or color. The ebook (EPUB) keeps the real clickable link. For print readers, add a QR code.
