The Difference Between a Project and a Book
A project holds one book's generator outputs. A book is the manuscript you write in the Writing Studio. The two are not linked.
A project keeps the generator outputs for one book, and a book is the manuscript you write in the Writing Studio. They are two independent systems and they are not linked to each other. Creating a project does not create a book, and switching projects does not change which book is open in the Writing Studio, or the other way around.

What is a project?
A project keeps everything for ONE book together in one place: every generator output, your Book Planner Blueprint, all of it. It is grouped separately from any other book you are working on, which stops one book's generator outputs from mixing with another's. You find your projects on the My Projects page in the left sidebar.
On My Projects, each project is a card. It shows the project name, when it was created, and how many outputs are saved in it. The project that new generator runs save into is marked Active. Click a card's View Results → to open that project's saved outputs under the tabs Step 1, Step 2, Step 3, Step 6, Step 7, Step 8 and Translation Versions. Your Book Planner blueprints are on the Step 2 tab.
What is a book?
A book is a manuscript in the Writing Studio. All your books live on the My Books tab at the top of the Writing Studio. Each book is its own card, with PDF and ePub downloads, a Writing Studio button (opens the book for editing), an Audiobook button (opens the Audiobooks tab for that book), a golden Translations button and a Delete button.
Why are they separate?
They do different jobs. A project holds the generator outputs and the Blueprint for a book. A book is the manuscript you write in the Writing Studio. If you work on more than one book at once, you switch projects and books separately, because switching one never switches the other.
What does the first-time project popup mean?
The first time a brand-new student opens a Step 1 generator, a popup asks you to name your project. The name does not need to be a real book title. A working title, a nickname or "Book Project 1" are all fine, and you can rename it any time from the My Projects page. If you skip the popup, it does not come back in Step 1, and you can always create a project later from My Projects.
If you were using the app before projects existed, you are never interrupted. Your old outputs stay safe and exactly as they were. You see them directly if you have never created a project, or under a Legacy Outputs card on My Projects if you have since created a real one.
How do I start a new book?
Three buttons at the top of My Books each do something different:
- + Create New Book: A genuinely blank book, starting from nothing. It asks for a working title, an author name and a language before creating it.
- + Import External Book: For a book you already wrote elsewhere (Word or ePub).
- + Pull Latest Outline: Pulls in the most recent output from your Chapter Detail Generator (Step 3 · BUILD) as a ready-to-write outline.
How do I pull a project's outline into a book?
In My Books, click + Pull Latest Outline. A dropdown lets you choose WHICH project's outline to pull. This matters when you work on more than one book at the same time, because you need to pull the right one, not just whatever you generated most recently. If you have no projects yet, the dropdown shows "No projects yet."
Which one do I use when?
- Generator outputs and your Book Planner Blueprint: Use projects (My Projects).
- Writing, editing and exporting: Use books (My Books and the Writing Studio).
