How to Connect Cloud Storage
Choose a storage platform when the app asks, or open Connected Services. Pick Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or Save to This Computer.
When you create or import a book for the first time, the app shows a "Choose your storage platform" screen. Pick Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or Save to This Computer. It is a one-time connection, and it is completely free to connect and use for this purpose.

What is cloud storage?
Cloud storage is a folder that lives on the internet instead of on your own computer, like a storage unit you can open from any device, anywhere, instead of a filing cabinet that only sits in one room of your house. The app connects to a cloud storage account you already control (Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive), or to your own computer directly, so your book files and audiobook files are saved somewhere that is really yours and not stuck inside this app.
All the options are completely free to connect and use for this purpose. There is no cost to storing a book manuscript or an audiobook's files this way.
Why does the app ask for it?
Connecting your own storage means a real backup copy of your book lives somewhere that is genuinely yours, not just inside this app. It is a one-time connection. Once it is done, it is remembered for every future new or imported book anywhere in the app, whether you start from the Writing Studio, My Books or the Global Book Translation Generator's import. No reconnecting is needed.
Which one should I choose?
- Google Drive: The easiest for almost everyone. If you have a Gmail address, you already have Google Drive, so there is nothing new to sign up for. Go to drive.google.com and log in with the same email and password you use for Gmail.
- Dropbox and OneDrive: The app creates its own dedicated app folder automatically the first time you connect. Nothing to set up by hand, and a brand-new empty account is the easiest case.
- Save to This Computer: Saves directly to a real folder on your own computer. No account is needed at all.
If you have no Google account at all, you can create one for free in a couple of minutes at accounts.google.com/signup. It asks for a name, a desired email address and a password. There is no credit card and no payment information anywhere in that process. It is just like getting a free email address, and Google Drive comes along with it automatically. If you would like to watch someone walk through it, search YouTube for "how to create a Gmail account".
What is the Google Drive folder step?
Right after you connect Google Drive, a screen appears with two options. You must choose or create a folder before you continue. You cannot skip it.
- Click 📁 Choose a folder to browse your real Drive one level at a time and pick any existing folder, including going into subfolders.
- Or type a name and click + Create to make a brand-new folder.
Dropbox and OneDrive do not have this extra step, because their app folder is created automatically.
How do I change the Google Drive folder later?
Click your profile picture, then Connected Services, then Change folder. This only redirects future backups. Anything already saved to the old folder stays right where it is, and nothing is moved or deleted.
How does Save to This Computer work?
In Chrome or Edge, you pick (or create, right there in the same picker) a folder once, and every future save writes there automatically, the same as the other three options. In Safari, Firefox and Brave, the option still works, but they cannot remember a folder, so it asks you to pick a save location every single time. That is a real browser limitation.
Can I use iCloud?
There is no separate iCloud button, because Apple does not offer one to connect to. Instead, choose Save to This Computer and point it at a folder inside your Mac's iCloud Drive. iCloud's own built-in sync then carries it to the cloud and across your other Apple devices automatically, with no extra setup.
Where do my audiobook files go?
Every generated audio file is saved directly into your own connected Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive, never onto our servers. The app creates a "Golden Bestseller Empire" folder once in your storage, then a subfolder named after that exact book, then an "Audio" subfolder inside it. You do not need to do anything to make this happen. If you regenerate a clip, the new version replaces the old one rather than piling up duplicates.
Is this how my typing is saved?
No. Every keystroke autosaves to the app's own database no matter whether cloud storage is connected. Connecting your own storage does not replace that. It adds a second, automatic backup copy that also saves to your own Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or computer folder in the background. You can always use Export (top right of the Writing Studio) to download a real PDF or ePub copy straight to your computer. Read more in Is my book safe? Versions and backups.
What if I close the window without choosing?
For creating or importing a book, the connection is required. Closing the window cancels that specific action. No book gets created and nothing gets saved anywhere for that attempt. Click + Create New Book or the import button again and connect to continue. A book you already have open keeps autosaving no matter what, connected or not.
